Career Journey

Can you tell us about your career journey and how you ended up in institutional distribution?

I started out my career in the industry as an RFP writer and performance analyst.  My goal at the time was to get my foot in the door and later transition to the investment team.  What ended up shaping my path, was having a boss and mentor who opened doors for me early on. I was given the chance to travel with team members, see firsthand how institutional distribution teams operate, and understand the broader goals driving the business.  I ultimately realized how unique this role is.  Where else can you discuss investments, build meaningful relationships with people across the globe, and work in an environment that’s constantly evolving so no two days look the same? I determined that I was exactly where I was meant to be, and I haven’t looked back since.

What inspired you to pursue a career in asset management and what compels you to stay?

I was originally drawn to this field because of my fascination with the markets and the investing side of the business. Over time, though, what has truly inspired me to stay in the industry is the people. The relationships I’ve built throughout my career with colleagues, clients, and partners has been the most meaningful and motivating part of the journey.

Involvement with AIMSE

How did you first get involved with AIMSE, and what motivated you to join?

I first got involved with AIMSE at the encouragement of a colleague who suggested I raise my hand to help with a regional event. From there, one opportunity naturally led to another.  I supported an annual conference and eventually was invited to serve on the board. My AIMSE journey really shows how far a simple “yes” can take you.

What motivated you to seek a leadership role within the organization?

Over the years, I’ve met so many wonderful people through AIMSE that have inspired me, supported me, and encouraged me to stay involved. Their influence motivated me to take on a leadership role and contribute in a more meaningful way. As I wrap up my final official year on the board, serving in this capacity has been my way of giving back to an organization that has given me so much. And truthfully, it’s been a lot of fun working alongside such passionate, like-minded professionals.

Personal Reflections

What are some of your personal interests or hobbies outside of work?

I love spending time outdoors. When I lived in New Mexico, that meant hiking and skiing. Now that I’m in Texas, I’ve traded the mountains for the courts.  I play tennis and spend a lot of time cheering on my kids as they pursue their own passions in tennis and volleyball.

How do you balance your professional and personal life?

Balancing my professional and personal life has always been one of my biggest challenges.  You want to excel in your career, but you also want to be fully present as a mom. With two teenage daughters (13 and 16), I’ve learned that the best approach is simply to do your best and give yourself some grace. I rely heavily on my calendar, which is never short on activity, but it helps me stay organized and make space for what matters most both at work and at home.

Insights for New Professionals

What advice would you give to someone starting out in this industry?
Stay curious, be open to learning, and don’t hesitate to raise your hand for new opportunities. This business is built on relationships, so invest in them authentically and surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you. And most importantly, give yourself grace.  No one has it all figured out at the beginning, but persistence and passion will carry you forward.
